About AJ Draz
AJ Draz is a fine art nature and wildlife photographer and longtime professional aviator based in Texas.
My journey with photography began as a teenager in the 1970s, inspired by a photographer friend of my father's, the work of Ansel Adams, Jacques Cousteau, and the pages of National Geographic.
Those were the days of 36-exposure rolls of Kodachrome, carefully chosen frames, and weeks of anticipation before the slides returned. Projecting those photographs onto a wall, often accompanied by music, brought distant places vividly to life.
A career in aviation eventually took me around the world, while photography remained a passion waiting in the background.
Today, I am completing that circle.
Through my photography, I seek to portray wildlife as individuals—with dignity, strength, vulnerability, and character—and to share the extraordinary beauty of the natural world.

Our Photographic Philosophy
Every photograph begins with a real encounter.
Every wildlife portrait and landscape originates from a photograph personally captured by AJ Draz. Our subjects are real, whether encountered in their natural habitats or photographed in protected environments where wildlife lives under human care.
Like the traditional darkroom artists who came before us, we believe photography is more than the technical recording of a moment. Light, shadow, color, contrast, and composition are part of the artist's language.
Some photographs remain faithful to the natural appearance of the encounter. Others become expressive fine-art interpretations, reflecting not only what the camera recorded, but what the photographer envisioned.
We do not substitute AI-generated animals or landscapes for genuine photographic encounters. Where selected images receive substantial artistic treatment, we believe in describing that work transparently.
